Dozens of ships are waiting at the entrance to Israel’s ports

  • Print

Israel’s seaports serve as the primary gateway for the country’s foreign trade and are a cornerstone of the Israeli economy. As a result, the level of service at the ports has a significant impact on the nation’s economic stability.

Over the past year, heavy congestion of ships at the entrances to the seaports has resurfaced, with more than 50 vessels currently waiting in line. The situation is worsening by the day.

This bottleneck in port operations disrupts Israel’s economic activity, reduces overall productivity, and negatively affects both imports and exports.

In response, the Steel Division of the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce has approached the Ministries of Transport and Finance, urging an immediate resolution to the port congestion. Their appeal outlined the severe economic and national implications of the crisis, including direct and immediate harm to housing and infrastructure projects, which in turn drives up the cost of living in Israel. Additionally, the Federation proposed various solutions for swiftly alleviating the issue and presented legal alternatives that could provide at least a partial remedy.

The Federation is represented by Adv. Raz Nizri, Senior Partner and Head of the Public Law, Regulation, and Crisis Management Department at our firm, alongside Adv. Nadeem Abboud, a partner in the department.
